New Mexico – Gov. Bill Richardson is directing state agencies under his control to remedy any gender pay gaps among their workers.
Richardson also wants a process and schedule for contractors with the state to do the same.
The governor signed an executive order Friday after recommendations by his Task Force on Fair and Equal Pay.
That task force was created to examine gender and racial pay equity and job segregation within state government.
Richardson's order directs executive agencies to submit reports on pay equity every year beginning in 2010 and to submit plans to overcome any non job-related pay gaps.
The governor's office says a task force survey found gender pay inequities in New Mexico state government are less than the national average.
