NM's Tax Notices Now Include Previous Year's Data

A new transparency requirement being implemented in New Mexico law should make it easier for property owners to assess year-to-year changes.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that a 2012 state law taking effect this year requires assessors to provide more information.

The law requires assessors to include property valuation information such as value, exemptions, tax rate and amount of tax for the previous year as well as the current year.

Santa Fe County Assistant Assessor Gary Perez says including the information from the previous year on each year's form will enable property owners to make comparisons without having to find the previous year's notice or call the assessor's office for that information.
