A pinning ceremony to acknowledge the promotion of United States Army Reserve Col. Richard Delgado Jr. – a New Mexico State University alumnus – will take place at the Fort Bayard Forgotten Veteran Memorial at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.
Col. Delgado’s official pinning was conducted on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the 79th Sustainment Support Command in Los Alamitos, California, by the Commanding General, Major Gen. Megan Tatu.
Delgado, assistant chief of staff G6 for the 79th Sustainment Support Command, was born in Las Cruces. He was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at New Mexico State University where he majored in Electrical Engineering Technology.
He received a Reserve Commission in 1990 and then received Distinguished Military Graduate honors and a Regular Army Commission in 1991.
His military schooling includes: Armor Officers Basic Course, Scout Platoon Leaders Course, Signal Officer Branch Qualification Course, Signal Officer Advanced Course, Tactical Signal Staff Officers Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College and Airborne School.
Delgado has served with 2/363rd Training Support Battalion, 91st Division as a Signal Observer/Controller, Combat Support Team chief, and Battalion S3 from 1998-2005. He was mobilized in 2003 and served as the Training Support Element, Forward Commander at Fort Bliss, Texas, with direct support to the Mobilization Assistance Team. Upon completion of CGSC, Delgado assumed the Battalion Executive Officer position with the 10th Battalion (ILE), 6th Brigade, 104th Division (IT), from 2005-2007. He served with the United States Army Reserve Sustainment Command with support to the Communication and Electronics Command team from 2007-2013 providing automation systems and systems engineering support to the Information Systems Engineering Command at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
In 2010, he was mobilized again and deployed to Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq serving as the G35 Projects and Engineering Chief with the 335th Signal Command (OCP). Delgado commanded the 98th Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Mesa, Arizona, relinquishing command in May of 2014. He assumed his current position with the 79th Sustainment Support Command in June 2014.
In his civilian capacity, Delgado is a Senior Engineer (GS-855-15) with the Defense Information Systems Agency Joint Interoperability Test Command at Fort Huachuca. Delgado and his wife, Christine, have been married for 23 years. They have three daughters: Marissa, Mariah and Miranda and make their home in Sierra Vista, Arizona.
N.M. State Sen. Howie Morales will comment on Delgado’s accomplishments at the ceremony. Delgado’s wife Christine, mother Lucille Delgado, brother Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Ralph Delgado and niece SFC Candice Williams will all take part in the pinning ceremony. Friends and family and the media are cordially invited to attend this important milestone in the military career of Col. Delgado.
