NMSU to award 2,000 bachelor’s, advanced degrees at May 14 commencement

  New Mexico State University is expecting 2,000 students to earn bachelor’s and advanced degrees this spring.

University officials expect 1,600 students to walk across the stage at the spring 2016 commencement ceremonies at New Mexico State University Saturday, May 14, at the Pan American Center.

Activities will begin Friday, May 13, with the doctoral hooding ceremony at 7 p.m. in the Pan American Center. Sixty-five candidates who have earned doctorates are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Charley Johnson will receive an honorary doctoral degree during the hooding ceremony. Johnson is being honored for his outstanding commitment to education, his remarkable football career, his commitment to his country and for his wonderful generosity to NMSU including the establishment of the Warren B. Woodson Endowment Fund in the athletic department.

The first commencement ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with undergraduate and graduate candidates from the colleges of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, Business, Engineering and Health and Social Services. 

The second ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. with undergraduate and graduate candidates from the colleges of Arts and Sciences and Education. 

An estimated 738 undergraduate students will receive bachelor’s degrees during the morning ceremonies with an additional 769 receiving bachelor’s degrees in the afternoon. A total of 453 students will receive master’s degrees and eight will receive specialist in education advanced degrees during their respective college ceremony.

At NMSU community colleges, 1,077 students will receive associate degrees. Ceremonies are scheduled at the respective campuses.

Tickets are not required. The Pan American Center will open one hour prior to each ceremony. Candidates should check in east of the Pan American Center in Lot 32.
