NMSU Dance Students Travel and Study in Spain - Viva España

Viva España

Las Cruces, NM - On this edition of PUENTES, bridges to the community, host Emily Guerra meets with Co-Director of Sol y Arena, and Associate Dance Professor at New Mexico State University, Frank “Paco” Gilpin.

Flamenco and Spanish dances have been popular in Santa Fe, NM for over 50 years. Thirteen years ago Paco and his wife, Lucilene de Geus, Co-Director of Sol Y Arena, brought Flamenco dance and classes to Las Cruces. For the last two years, with their help and expert instruction, several NMSU dance students have had the opportunity to study Flamenco in Spain and experience its rich history for one month during the summer. This can only be made possible with special dance performances held throughout the year.

You can help dance students for the third year, and also enjoy “Viva España” a passionate evening of eclectic Flamenco and Spanish Dance performed by Sol y Arena, the Dance Programs Flamenco and Spanish Dance Ensemble on Saturday, April 23rd at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 24th at 2:30 p.m. at the Rio Grande Theatre, 211 North Main Street, Las Cruces.
