New Mexico State University will deliver water to a northwestern New Mexico community cut off from its water supply.
The Daily Times in Farmington reports (http://bit.ly/250gqJ8) that the NMSU Extension office announced Tuesday it will make emergency water deliveries to livestock owners who rely on the Bloomfield Irrigation District Ditch.
Officials say an 80-foot stretch of bank along the ditch collapsed Monday morning.
The ditch fills the city's reservoir with water from the San Juan River.
Officials say rebuilding the bank will take at least two weeks.
Livestock owners who cannot access the river can sign up to have water brought via truck to their property.
NMSU Agriculture Extension Agent Bonnie Hopkins says the breach comes as crops are growing and many young animals are nursing.
