NMSU departments team up with Las Cruces public school for STEAM family night

Departments from across New Mexico State University have put together a fun evening of demonstrations and hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math for students and parents from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Sonoma Elementary School.

“It’s an effort of several departments across the campus to come together and reach out to the Sonoma Express Parent Teacher Organization to give elementary and middle school kids a taste of arts and sciences at NMSU,” said Anne Hubbell, professor of communication studies, and one of the organizers of the event.

NMSU departments involved include psychology, computer science, astronomy, biology, pre-pharmacy, mathematical sciences, chemistry, physics, theatre arts, NMSU’s Arthropod Museum and plant and environmental sciences. The Oñate High School computer sciences group and the New Mexico State Police will also be on hand.

The event will include a visit with the Cat in the Hat, a Star Wars photo booth as well as food trucks.

Parents and students who have questions about the event should email sonomaexpresspto@gmail.com.
