NMSU Gospel Choir To Perform Holiday Concert Friday

WHAT: The New Mexico State University Gospel Choir will perform a fundraising Christmas concert at 100-year-old Phillips Chapel

WHO: About 20 members of the New Mexico State University Gospel Choir

WHEN: Friday, Dec. 14, from 7 - 9 p.m.

WHERE: Phillips Chapel at 638 N. Tornillo Street, Las Cruces

The concert is part of an effort to help complete the restoration of Phillips Chapel built in 1911, the oldest African American church in Las Cruces, listed on the State and National Registers of historic places. The concert is free and open to the public however, donations to help the chapel will be accepted.

"Last year we rocked the house," said Bobbie Green, NMSU Gospel Choir conductor. "This year, the audience should expect to move and be moved by the performance."

The Gospel Choir's program will include contemporary gospel renditions from popular composers such as Donald Lawrence, Richard Smallwood and Kirk Franklin as well as traditional Christmas music.
