NMSU Hosts Aggie Welcome And Orientation Week

With the start of fall classes less than two weeks away, New Mexico State University will host a variety of events during Aggie Welcome and Orientation week to introduce students to campus life.

The week begins with housing move-in at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, and the Aggie Barbecue follows at 4 p.m. when NMSU welcomes all students and their families at the Corbett Center outdoor stage.

“Aggie Welcome and Orientation events serve to transition all new students and their families by providing significant events during the day, which focus on resources, safety and diversity along with engaging evening activities,” said Clarissa Maldonado, student program coordinator. “Student Affairs and Enrollment Management offices, Housing and Campus Life and the dedicated staff of the Aggie Welcome and Orientation office work to provide a fun and welcoming week for new and returning Aggies.”

Students can participate in the Great Aggie SCVNGR Hunt at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, which begins at the Corbett Center Ballrooms. The campuswide scavenger hunt will require students, working in teams, to stop by many departments and offices using the SCVNGR app on a mobile device to gather resources and collect prizes.

A transfer and transition welcome reception will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Corbett Center Ballrooms for transfer students and their families new to NMSU.

The Military and Veterans Programs at NMSU is hosting a welcome back picnic at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, for all veteran, military, military dependent students and their families along with NMSU faculty and staff who are veterans. After lunch, students can attend Aggiefest at 2:30 p.m. on the International Mall to learn about the resources on campus with more than 80 departments and campus organizations sponsoring information tables.

NMSU classes begin Thursday, Aug. 21, for the 2014 fall semester. Aggie Welcome and Orientation concludes with NMSU’s first football game of the 2014 season against Cal Poly at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.
