Las Cruces – Dr. Barbara Couture is inaugurated Tuesday as New Mexico State University's 25th president.
Board of Regents member Laura Conniff says the ceremony in Las Cruces offers an opportunity for the new president to express goals for the school. Couture says she wants the community to feel the university is moving forward and to provide a sense of community.
Couture arrived on campus in January, when she identified several issues facing the university. She says among them is the budget. She hopes to find ways for NMSU employees to work more efficiently to make the best use of funding and resources.
Couture also plans to work in coming years with New Mexico communities to help improve opportunities for students to do well at NMSU and graduate.
