NMSU Las Cruces Debuts Reusable Food Containers

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Visitors to the Taos Restaurant Pancake Supper in December were greeted by a glaring cream-colored tower built of 1,200 non-recyclable to-go containers. That tower represented the number of containers that entered campus trash receptacles every single day.

Beginning Sunday, Jan. 9, NMSU Campus Dining will unveil brand-new, reusable to-go containers that will significantly reduce the amount of waste generated by Taos Restaurant customers.

Every student enrolled in an NMSU meal plan will receive one free "Eco To-Go" shell container that can be used at Taos Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Students need only to rinse the container and return it to either Taos, Java City, the College Canteen or the Aggie Snack Bar and a card will be issued for a new and professionally cleaned "Eco To-Go" container that can be redeemed at Taos Restaurant for the student's next on-the-go meal.

A replacement for a lost container may be purchased at Taos for $5.
