This is an update and suspect description re-release regarding the two attempted robberies and the attempted criminal sexual contact case from last week. As of this time, the suspects have not been identified, but there have not been any subsequent reports of similar crimes on campus since last Friday. If you witnessed any of the incidents, please call NMSU Police at (575) 646-3311 and ask to speak with an investigator so we can document what you saw or heard.
While it is possible that all of these incidents were carried out by the same person, there is enough discrepancy in the descriptions provided that we cannot say that is the case. As a reminder, the suspect descriptions are as follows:
Attempted robbery #1 suspect:
Gender: Male
Race: White
Ethnicity: Possibly Hispanic
Age: Early 20's
Build: Thin
Height: 5'4" - 5'5"
Other: Numerous tattoos on both arms (looking like "sleeves")
Clothing: Gray short sleeve t-shirt shirt, blue jeans, possibly a baseball cap
Carrying: Black backpack
Attempted robbery #2 suspect:
Gender: Male
Race: White
Ethnicity: Possibly Hispanic
Build: Muscular
Height: Approx. 5'6"
Other: Tattoos on face ("Est 1983" or "Est 1993"; letter "B" or number "8" on one ear)
Clothing: White t-shirt or muscle shirt, blue denim pants rolled up to knees, white athletic socks reaching the knees, Nike shoes, black baseball cap with white lettering
Carrying: Black backpack
Attempted criminal sexual contact suspect:
Gender: Male
Race: White
Age: Early to mid-20's
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Build: Thin
Height: Approx. 6'2"
Hair: Short, with a possible mustache
Other: Numerous tattoos on left arm; appeared to be limping and possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Clothing: White t-shirt, black shorts, white athletic socks reaching the knees, black baseball cap
Carrying: Black backpack
Anyone who sees a person matching any of the above descriptions, or witnesses suspicious behavior, is urged to call police immediately via 911. In the meantime, remember there are a variety of services and programs available at NMSU to help keep you safe. If you need someone to be with you to get to a car, dorm, library, or other location, the ASNMSU Pete's Pickup runs Sunday -Thursday from 6:30 pm - 12:30 am and can be reached by calling 646-1111. The NMSU Police Department also hosts a variety of safety classes throughout the semester, with Pepper Spray for Private Citizens classes and Active Killer Workshops already scheduled for October.
