NMSU Las Cruces Tuition And Fees Rising Six Percent

Darren Phillips, NMSU

The New Mexico State University Board of Regents Monday voted unanimously to increase tuition and fees by six percent for the Las Cruces campus.  The vote came after a host of community members, faculty, and the student body President asked the board to approve the increase, which takes effect in the fall semester.

NMSU has cut more than 700 jobs in recent years, due in part to state budget cuts.  Even with next year's tuition increase, administrators say they still have to cut an additional eight million dollars from the budget.

The University is continuing a reorganization plan designed to reduce costs.
