NMSU Listed Among Top Animal Science Graduate Programs

New Mexico State University’s Department of Animal and Range Sciences’ graduate program has been ranked sixth nationally on the Graduate Program’s spring 2015 list for animal science programs.

“Faculty in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences are very pleased that our program has been ranked sixth among all the animal science graduate programs in the United States,” said Dennis Hallford, Regents Professor and interim department head.

Graduate Programs is a website geared to prospective graduate students that includes content such as reviews and rankings that is primarily based on feedback from graduate students.

“Our graduate faculty members are dedicated to providing the best possible training for our students in an environment that encourages excellence in teaching and research as well as cooperation and collegiality. We are proud of our graduate students, and they are integral and indispensable to the success of our departmental mission,” Hallford said.

Graduate Programs’ rankings are based on scores and reviews from both current graduate students and recent graduates. Students rank the programs in 15 categories such as academic competitiveness, career support, faculty accessibility and support, financial aid, quality of network and student diversity.

Additionally in spring 2015, NMSU was ranked in the top 10 percent for value-added mid-career salary in a Brookings Institute report. Value added is the difference between a college’s predicted and actual student economic outcomes, as defined in the report.
