Las Cruces – At a regular meeting Monday, Jan. 31, in Santa Fe, New Mexico State University's Board of Regents heard reports on the legislative session and the university's enrollment.
Ricardo Rel, NMSU's assistant vice president for government relations, updated the Regents on bills that have been introduced during the legislative session to-date that are of interest to the university.
Rel said there are more than 50 bills that the university is currently tracking directly related to higher education and other bills that are administratively related.

The Regents also received an enrollment update from Bernadette Montoya, interim vice president for student success.
Montoya said the NMSU Las Cruces campus total enrollment is up slightly. The largest increase is found in transfers from out-of-state at all levels. Each of the NMSU community college campuses is up, except for Carlsbad.
Santa Fe Mayor David Coss was a special guest at the meeting and welcomed the Board of Regents to Santa Fe. Coss is a 1977 graduate of NMSU.
"We commend you for what a great university New Mexico State University is," Coss said.
