NMSU’s Salon Discovery gala Friday to feature civil engineering, La Catrina Quartet

NMSU’s own Latin Grammy Award-winning La Catrina Quartet

This semester’s Salon Discovery fall gala at New Mexico State University will feature civil engineering and music from the award-winning La Catrina Quartet. “NMSU Civil Engineering: En Route to Better Infrastructure” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in Atkinson Recital Hall.

Tickets are now available and also can be purchased at the door. Any NMSU student with a valid student ID can pick up a free ticket at the door.

“This year’s Salon Discovery gala event will be an amazing showcase of our civil engineering program and will feature three musical performances by NMSU’s resident string quartet, Latin Grammy award-winning La Catrina,” said Tim Ketelaar, associate dean of the Honors College.

“The College of Engineering will be welcoming approximately 60 local high school students and future engineers to the event. We hope these students and the public will join us for an after-party on the NMSU Horseshoe, immediately following the gala event, where we will be providing free gelato courtesy of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.”

The gala will include conversations with faculty from NMSU’s Department of Civil Engineering – Paola Bandini and Phil King.

Salon Discovery provides the Las Cruces community with a showcase of the amazing accomplishments and expertise of NMSU faculty, staff and students in areas as diverse as science, music and dance. For more information, go to http://salondiscovery.nmsu.edu or call 575-646-1420.
