NMSU Searches For Next President: What Wanat Wants

>>>

By Michael Olson

Las Cruces, NM – As the first presidential candidate to hold public forums on campus Dr. Wanat was calm and deliberative. He shared his academic experiences from the northern Midwest and fielded a range of questions from faculty, staff, students and community leaders.

Wanat says the university needs to be clear what it is providing the state as a return on the tax dollars it receives. He said that tax dollars are an investment in the future where returns can take 10 to 15 years to surface. While technical research programs are important as part of this return he cautioned that the University needs to be able to have a robust liberal arts program as well.
