NMSU Students To Survey Historic Areas In Mesilla Park

Students from New Mexico State University (NMSU) will survey the historic homes and structures of Mesilla Park beginning the end of September and continuing through the fall. The survey is a semester project for a course in historic preservation taught by Dr. Jon Hunner, professor of history at NMSU.

Over the next two months, students will walk the neighborhood of Mesilla Park, photographing buildings, talking with residents, and gathering information about the history of the community. Using this data, a nomination will be prepared to place Mesilla Park on the state and national registers of historic places as a significant district.

Several workshops and meetings about the survey were held over the summer, and residents interested in participating in the survey of Mesilla Park should contact Dr. Hunner at 575/646-2490 or jhunner@nmsu.edu
