Hatch – First came the huge fiberglass pig.
Now, it's the giant rooster.
The owners of a restaurant in Hatch, Teako and Josie Nunn, have created T-shirts with the slogan "Save the Rooster," similar to what they did 10 months ago when the fate of their huge fiberglass pig was uncertain.
The fiberglass rooster sits about 12 feet up, atop a '64 Chevrolet pickup truck.
The state Transportation Department sent a notice of violation to the Nunns, saying the rooster and its accompanying vehicle violate state law. According to Teako Nunn, the state contends it constitutes off-premises advertising on wheels, which isn't allowed.
The Nunns ended a similar dispute in February, when officials allowed the fiberglass pig to be an off-premises billboard.
