"Nunset Boulevard" Coming To Las Cruces

Driftwood Productions presents its first production in its new home at the Rio Grande Theatre with the musical comedy Nunset Boulevard, the seventh in the Nunsense series by Dan Goggin. Cast in the roles of the singing sisters are Carmen Call as Reverend Mother, Sister Mary Regina, Debbie Molina as Sister Mary Hubert, Yvette Crofford as Sister Robert Anne, Kathleen Murphy as Sister Mary Amnesia and Jade Diaz as Sister Mary Leo. Call, Molina and Murphy return to roles they made famous under the direction of Art Haggerton for Las Cruces Community Theatre, while Crofford and Diaz are new to the order. The sixth role, that of pinsetter for the Hollywood Bowl-a-Rama, will be played by a special guest on each night of the show’s run. In addition, a special exhibit will run throughout the month of June in the El Paso Electric Gallery of the Rio Grande Theatre, showcasing 30 years of production under the direction of Art Haggerton. Nunset Boulevard is being co-directed by Artistic Director Kathleen Murphy and Oscar Perez.

Synopsis: In the seventh installment of the Nunsense series, The Little Sisters of Hoboken have been invited to sing at the famed Hollywood Bowl. They are thrilled at the prospect until they arrive and realize that they were instead booked to perform at the Hollywood Bowl-A-Rama, a bowling alley with a cabaret lounge. When they hear that auditions are being held for a movie musical, "Nunset Boulevard," they recognize that landing a part in it would be a natural, although this also forces them to contemplate their true calling. The show is structured in the tried and true variety format, but as always, things go awry. The Sisters have to contend with announcements from the bowling alley public address system as well as the activity on the lanes, which is occasionally heard but not seen.

Performances will run June 8 – 17; 8pm on Fridays & Saturdays, 2pm on Sundays.
