Officer On Martinez Security Detail Resigns

Office of the Governor

State Police say an officer on Gov. Susana Martinez's security detail has resigned.

State Police Chief Pete Kassetas said Friday that Ruben Maynes left the law enforcement agency in "good standing" earlier this week.

Maynes' family helped arrange and pay for part of a 2011 alligator hunting trip in Louisiana by the governor's husband.

Democratic Party Chairman Sam Bregman questioned whether Maynes' resignation had anything to do with the trip.

But Kassetas said the officer resigned "to pursue personal interests outside of law enforcement in the private sector."

The governor's office has said the hunting trip wasn't financed by the Louisiana owners of a horse racing track that received a new lease at the state fairgrounds. Martinez's critics have questioned whether the track owners played any role in the trip.
