State officials say two domestic dogs have been bitten by Mexican gray wolves around the Gila Hot Springs area.
The Silver City Sun-News reports that New Mexico Fish and Wildlife Service says the wolves were from the Coronado Pack and were originally released at McKenna Park in the Gila Wilderness during the summer.
Department Jeff Humphries says neither of the wounded dogs was seriously injured. He says the dogs were attacked around Thanksgiving.
New Mexico Cattle Growers Association Executive Director Caren Cowan says that as more Mexican gray wolves are released into the wild, there will be more conflict between animals and people.
The wolf reintroduction program in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico has been hampered over the years by politics, illegal killings and other factors.
