Officials Want Commissioner To Resign Due To Photo Controversy

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque's mayor is joining a chorus of Republicans calling for the resignation of a Bernalillo County commissioner shown posing with young women in a Philippine city known for prostitution.

Mayor Richard Berry's office released a statement Saturday saying a long pattern of inappropriate behavior by Republican Commissioner Michael Wiener has reached a point where he should step down for the good of the community.

Berry joins a bevy of fellow Republicans calling for Wiener's resignation since the Albuquerque Journal published the photos taken in Angelus City by a photographer documenting sexual exploitation of women.

Wiener says he was just touring the hot spots with his fiancee while on an airport layover.

Gov. Susana Martinez, the state Republican Party and a fellow Bernalillo County commissioner called for his resignation Friday.
