Onate High School Wins Best In New Mexico At NMSU Tournament Of Bands

LAS CRUCES – The Oñate High School Royal Knight Regiment Band finished third in the finals of the 35th annual New Mexico State University Tournament of Bands high school marching band competition, held November 3, 2012 at Aggie Memorial Stadium, said OHS Band Director Shawn Silva.

“Oñate was the only New Mexico band to place in the finals competition among 36 bands from New Mexico, Texas and Arizona,” said Silva. “Oñate finished third in the preliminary competition and also won the prestigious Gregg Randall Award of Excellence for the state’s top prize. In finals performance, the Royal Knight Regiment finished strong to maintain third overall to  El Paso’s Hanks and Coronado high school, which finished first and second,” he said.

“We are so proud of all of our students. Their efforts, dedication and commitment to our program here at Oñate is amazing. This group of young adults is a special one, the way they work together, keep each other engaged in and out of school and all the while they have fun like kids should have fun. They are incredible musicians, students and people,” said Silva
