One Charged In Chaparral Stabbing

A Chaparral man is in custody after Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies say he lunged at two men with a knife after an argument about an ex-girlfriend got out of control.

Deputies were called to the 400 block of County Line Road in Chaparral after two men were allegedly cut with a knife.

Investigators determined that the altercation began in northeast El Paso when Ruben Zarazua, Jr. and another man got into a physical altercation about a mutual ex-girlfriend.

Their argument continued over the phone and they began to make threats toward one another. That’s when deputies say Zarazua allegedly went to the other man’s home, exited his vehicle with a knife and started swinging.

The victim received a minor laceration under his bottom lip. His brother was also injured during the fight, receiving minor scratches to his right arm and stomach.

Zarazua was arrested and transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center on two charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

At the time of his arrest, Zarazua also had an outstanding warrant for traffic violations. His bond is set at $10,000.
