"Operation Lockdown" To Focus On DWI

Las Cruces – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) has been setting up forces with law enforcement agencies throughout Dona Ana, Luna, Grant, Hidalgo, Sierra, and Socorro Counties. These agencies include; New Mexico State Police, City of Las Cruces, City of Deming, City of Sunland Park, City of Silver City, City of Socorro, Dona Ana County, Grant County, Luna County and Sierra County. Attendees of this operation will also have assistance from the Motor Transportation Department and the Dona Ana Mount Range Patrol.

The enforcement will begin Friday, May 28, 2010 as motorists begin the Memorial Day weekend. There will be over 25 checkpoints and Saturation Patrols set up that will based throughout southwestern New Mexico. The Press Conference will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Dona Ana County Offices located at 845 Motel Blvd in Las Cruces, NM and will start promptly at 10:00 am.

Commissioner John Hummer of the New Mexico Department of Transportation for District One stated that "the joint effort with all law enforcement agencies is one way the New Mexico Department of Transportation can reach out to stop those that drink and drive."

Frank Guzman, District One Engineer of the NMDOT has informed all law enforcement offices "that our office is ready to assist with any traffic control needed to make this operation safe for the motorists and successful for all parties involved."
