Out-Of-State Group Supporting Martinez Re-Election

Office of the Governor

The Republican Governors Association is throwing its first punch in New Mexico's race for governor with advertising that criticizes Democratic nominee Gary King.

The association said it's launching the ad Friday on broadcast and cable television statewide.

TV station records indicate the RGA is spending more than $100,000 to air the ad for a week.

The ad concludes saying King "was a terrible attorney general. He'd be a worse governor."

Much of the ad relies on newspaper editorial criticisms of King, including his handling of public corruption cases. In one instance, a court dismissed charges against former Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron because case delays violated her right to a speedy trial.

King said Thursday he hadn't seen the ad, but believed voters would disregard attacks by out-of-state groups.
