Outsourcing Plan Dropped In El Paso District

A West Texas school district has abandoned plans to spend $100,000 on a study about whether to outsource four supervisory positions.  The Ysleta Independent School District has been in the spotlight for allegations of lavish spending by its superintendent Michael Zolkoski.  Trustee Shane Haggerty says he questioned the spending of $100,000 on a plan that could start with supervisors and lead to layoffs of workers.

A district spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment on the price of the project or the reasons behind its dismissal.

The El Paso Times reports Zolkoski's spending on parties, holiday revues and his living on a below-market rent district owned house have raised concerns in the district. He's denied wrongdoing.
