A Packed January At The Rio Grande Theatre In Las Cruces

Little Anthony Live In Concert                                                                       7 pm

The Doña Ana Arts Council presents an intimate evening with Jerome Anthony Gourdine, better known as Little Anthony, in a one-man show celebrating 56 years in show business and the release of his new book, “Little Anthony: My Journey, My Destiny,” by Arlene Krieger.  The new book is available online at a discounted “Little Anthony Book Bundle” price, or during intermission on the night of the show.  Anthony will sign copies of his book at a private reception with the artist after the show. An Artists’ Reception for January’s featured artist will take place in the El Paso Electric Gallery from 5 to 7pm during the First Friday Downtown ArtRamble. Please join us for this wonderful exhibit, meet the artist and get a first hand look at the artistic process.

Waiting For Godot: Pay-As-You-Wish Opening Night                             7:30 pm

Enjoy opening night of Samuel Beckett’s tragicomedy with a special deal courtesy of Spence Asset Management Foundation. For one night only, you decide how much you want to pay, from $2.50 to $25, to see Tony Award-winning playwright Mark Medoff onstage in the play voted “most significant English language play of the 20th century” in a British Royal National Theatre poll.             Waiting For Godot                                                                              7:30 & 2 pm

The Doña Ana Arts Council in partnership with Sage Theatricals present Samuel Beckett’s tragicomedy in two acts, directed by Jessica Medoff Bunchmann and starring Mark Medoff, Richard Rundell, David Edwards, Brandon Brown and Grace Marks. In this quintessentially absurdist play, two wanderers wait by a lonely tree to meet up with Mr. Godot, who they hope will change their lives for the better. Instead, two eccentric travelers arrive, one man on the end of the other’s rope. The results are both funny and dangerous. Doors open at 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, January 6-10; show begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 11; show begins promptly at 2 p.m.

            Play Me – A Neil Diamond Tribute

The highly acclaimed PLAY ME, a Neil Diamond Tribute, returns to the Rio Grande Theatre in a benefit concert supporting the Doña Ana Arts Council’s educational programs. The show features the incomparable talent of recording artist Chris Waggoner singing in the style of Neil Diamond. Backed by a seven piece band and the “Diamondette” singers, the show is a high powered tribute to the music and musical styling of the iconic Neil Diamond. The band will be creating an intimate atmosphere and putting their creative touches on Neil Diamond’s iconic tunes such "Sweet Caroline", "America", "Forever in Blue Jeans", “Cherry, Cherry” and many more!  Regular Reserved Seats are $17.00 (balcony and the back 6 of the main floor; all fees included); and for an upfront experience, Premium Reserved Seats are $22.00 (first 8 rows of the main floor; all fees included).  All tickets are available for purchase online at www.RioGrandeTheatre.com. Every Other Tuesday: Justin Thompson and Friends                               6:30pm

Albuquerque singer/songwriter Justin Thompson brings his affinity for traditional folk music, poetic lyrics and energetic performances to Las Cruces, with accompaniment by Melanie Williams on bass, ukulele and percussion, Ky Burtt on mandolin, banjo and guitar and Gabrielle Sadler on guitar, mandolin and percussion. Every Other Tuesday is a Doña Ana Arts Council program that showcases local performers beginning promptly at 6:30 pm.  The event is FREE and open to the public. Las Cruces Civic Concert Association presents Fujii-Cecil Duo             7:30 pm

New York-based couple, flutist Kaori Fujii, a Grammy-nominated graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and classical guitarist Eric Cecil, a graduate of New York’s Manhattan School of Music, will share their love of many cultures and time periods, through an eclectic program that takes audiences on a creative journey that soars from Bach to Bossa Nova. Cirque ZumaZuma                                                                                       7:30 pm

The Doña Ana Arts Council proudly continues its 2014/2015 Performance Series with a celebration of Black History Month, as the ultimate African circus brings all the mysticism, magic and excitement of that rich continent to Las Cruces for a stellar night of astonishing physicality that will have the audience poised at the edge of their seats. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Every month the Doña Ana Arts Council welcomes local artists to exhibit in the El Paso Electric Gallery in the lobby of the Rio Grande Theatre.  Regular exhibit hours are 9am–5pm, Monday through Friday.
