Park Runs For PRC

By KRWG News

New Mexico – Democratic state legislator Al Park is running for an Albuquerque-area seat on the Public Regulation Commission.

Park issued a statement Tuesday announcing his bid for the Democratic nomination in PRC District 1. A lawyer, Park has served in the state House of Representatives since 2001. He is chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

Park received an undergraduate degree from Purdue University in 1992 and a law degree from George Washington University in 1995.

The District 1 seat on the PRC is open because Democratic incumbent Jason Marks is term limited and cannot seek re-election.

Park expressed support for reorganizing the PRC, which critics say is too large because it regulates utilities, telecommunications, insurance and motor carriers such as taxis and ambulances. The PRC also includes the state Fire Marshal's Office.
