Pearce Joins Republicans For Another Vote To Repeal The Affordable Care Act

Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM 2)

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 596, a bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“It has been nearly five years since Obamacare has been enacted into law. In that time, the law has been defined by broken promises and unworkable implementation,” said Pearce. “It has forced Americans to pay more for their health care coverage, led some to lose their doctors or the insurance plans they designed for their families.”

“Not only has this law been detrimental to families across New Mexico and our nation, it has also hampered economic growth. Obamacare regulations have reduced small business wages by at least $22.6 billion annually, and have cut jobs through mandates on employers. A Las Cruces small business owner recently aired his grievances with the law stating that under Obamacare, his restaurant has been redefined as a large employer, forcing him to reduce staff time and provide services that are simply not affordable.”

“There are many reasons why this law must be repealed. The November elections are proof that the public disapproves of the President’s policies and are calling for changes. When the people speak, Washington must act. With that said, a simple repeal is not enough. That is why the House has included language that allows Congress 180 days to craft a better solution.  This solution must uphold patient-centered solutions, secure those with pre-existing conditions access to affordable care, allow individuals under the age of 26 to be covered by their parents’ insurer, reform medical liability laws that were completely omitted from the Affordable Care Act, and protect religious convictions and consumers.”

“Americans deserve better than the false promises of Washington politicians. My vote today is a step to ensure that true reform strengthens our healthcare system and empowers individuals to make decisions without being burdened by government mandates.”
