Pearce Vows To Fight Funding For Paris Climate Agreement Projects

Rep. Steve Pearce (R) New Mexico

Commentary:  U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce issued this statement following the release of the so-called global climate agreement in Paris:

“The President has decided to put green energy projects overseas ahead of American families and our own economy,” stated Pearce.  “I will do everything I can to ensure that this funding is blocked to protect the people of New Mexico.”

“The Paris U.N. climate agreement is a clear attempt by foreign governments and international climate activists, to disenfranchise American taxpayers.  New Mexicans will pay for this deal through increased taxes and higher electricity rates.  American families will be forced to pay for green energy projects overseas while thousands of jobs will be lost domestically.  Seniors, low income families, and others on fixed incomes will undergo unnecessary hardship. There is also no guarantee that the money that this Administration has pledged to the U.N. will actually go to designated projects.

President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry have already committed American taxpayers to pay:

·        $3 billion to the U.N. Green Climate Fund to be paid over four years; $500 million this year

New York Times November 14, 2014

·        $30 million to climate risk insurance schemes in the Pacific, Central America and Africa Reuters, December 1, 2015

·        $51 million to an international fund for adaptation to climate change in the least developed countries Reuters, December 1, 2015

·        By 2020:  An increase in U.S. climate adaptation grants to $860 million from $430 million  ABC News, December 9, 2015

Developing nations also want at least $5.4 TRILLION from countries like the U.S. for climate mitigation projects.  With a nearly $19 Trillion National Debt, the United States cannot afford to fund the world’s projects.  The American people have the right to approve or disapprove any contribution of taxpayer dollars to the UN through their representatives in Congress.
