New Mexico – New Mexico Congressman Steve Pearce says Americans face a bleak economic future unless the federal government stops running deficits.
Pearce told a joint session of the Legislature on Thursday that it will take a bipartisan effort to bring spending in line with revenues. He also said the nation must focus on creating jobs to reinvigorate the economy.
The Republican congressman represents the 2nd District of southern New Mexico. He regained the seat in last year's election. Pearce had served in Congress for three terms but in 2008 ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate.
Pearce said annual government deficits are driving up the nation's total debt, putting the economy at risk of a long-term slide.
