El Paso – Texas Gov. Rick Perry wants the federal government to intensify border security after a stray bullet from a shootout in Mexico crossed the border and hit a building on the campus of University of Texas at El Paso.
In a written statement, Perry demanded that President Barack Obama's administration "immediately deploy a significant force of personnel and resources to protect our homeland."
The 30-minute shootout in Ciudad Juarez, just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, prompted the shutdown of a border highway in El Paso. No injuries were reported.
