New Mexico authorities are investigating an accident in which pedestrian was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle driven by an on-duty Dona Ana County sheriff's deputy.
Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kelly Jameson says the deputy was responding to an emergency call Tuesday evening when the female pedestrian was struck in Mesquite.
According to the Las Cruces Sun-News, identities of the pedestrian and the deputy have not been released.
The Sheriff's Department says the deputy has been on standard administrative leave while New Mexico State Police investigate the accident.
Investigators will submit will report their findings to the District Attorney's Office.
