Pet Adoption Events This Saturday

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will conduct off-site pet adoption events this Saturday, July 13.  Available for adoption will be dogs, puppies, cats and kittens.

Adoptions will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Las Cruces. Dogs available for adoption will be located at the north end of the mall. Cats can be adopted from the offices of the Center for Spiritual Living at the north end of the mall, across from the site where the dog adoptions take place.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, adoptions also will be facilitated at PetCo, 3050 E. Lohman, also in Las Cruces.

Adoption fees are $75 for dogs/ puppies and $50 for kittens. Adult cats (over one year old) are free during the entire month of June. All adoptions include the first set of vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip.

At the PetCo event, microchipping for pets that already have homes will be available to the public for $20, and city pet licenses will be available to neutered pets for $5 each. Licenses for unneutered pets are $25 each. Proof of spay/neuter is required before a $5 license will be issued. Pet owners also must bring current proof of rabies vaccination for each animal to be licensed.

The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley also offers low-cost spay/neuter operations at the rate of $35 for dogs and $25 for cats. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the shelter offices.

You can also visit the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley’s Facebook page for information about the Pet of the Week and other services and news items. The facility is in need of donations of dog crates, towels, blankets and long-strand shredded paper. Volunteers also are needed to assist with animal care and socializing.

The pet of the week is Dumpling, a 4-year-old male Chihuahua mix, who is very active and loves to be held.
