New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed an Albuquerque physician to a state office overseeing health care reforms.
Dr. Dan Derksen will serve as director of the Office of Healthcare Reform within the Department of Human Services.
Among the duties of the office is establishing a state health insurance exchange.
Derksen is a family practice physician in Albuquerque and served as a professor in family and community medicine at the University of New Mexico.
Derksen was president of the New Mexico Medical Society in 2009.
The governor's office announced Derksen's appointment last week. He will be paid a salary of $100,000 a year.
