Las Cruces – "There's not a wrong note in this piece, nothing is wasted," acclaimed pianist Jon Nakamatsu says of Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto, which he performed with the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra in October. The Gold Medal winner of the 1997 Van Cliburn Piano Competition, Nakamatsu regularly performs all over the world; this was his second time performing with the LCSO under the direction of Lonnie Klein. They both returned to the KRWG studios to talk with Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin about the heady days after winning the Van Cliburn, the demands of such a competiton -- as well as the life of a musician afterwards -- and music by William Bolcom, Beethoven and Rachmaninoff.
