Authorities say an Albuquerque police detective who was shot by a fellow officer during an undercover drug bust remains in critical but stable condition.
Police spokeswoman Celina Espinoza says the male officer underwent a third surgery Sunday morning.
Police are not releasing the name of the injured officer or of the lieutenant who shot him.
Authorities say two undercover, plain-clothed detectives were conducting a narcotics operation on Friday when the shooting occurred.
According to police, they were in a vehicle with two drug suspects in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant on the city's southeast side. Unmarked police vehicles surrounded the car just before gunfire erupted.
The two suspects were arrested on drug trafficking charges.
According to a criminal complaint, police were leading a marijuana sting operation.
