Police Identify Suspect Who Killed Himself After Chase

New Mexico State Police have identified a man who shot and killed himself after leading officers on a high-speed chase as a rape suspect from Albuquerque.

Police say Albuquerque officers saw 35-year-old Jeremiah Baldwin on Wednesday and identified him as a suspect. Detectives with the sex crimes unit had been looking for Baldwin since early June when he cut off his ankle monitor.

Baldwin had been charged with four counts of criminal sexual penetration, one count of kidnapping, bribery of a witness and other crimes for a rape police say he committed last July.

Albuquerque officers say Baldwin tried to ram their vehicles and then sped onto Interstate 25 at more than 100 mph after he was spotted Wednesday. He led officers on a chase through three counties before shooting himself.
