Police Recover Two Bodies From Lake

The State Police dive team has recovered two bodies from a lake in western New Mexico.

The team was searching Quemado Lake for two teenage boys who went missing Sunday. Officials could not immediately confirm if the bodies were those of the teens.

State Police Sgt. Emmanuel Gutierrez says authorities are awaiting a positive identification from the office of the medical investigator.

Gutierrez says the bodies were found on the western end of the lake after the team noticed an anomaly in their sonar readings. The bodies were stuck in mud below the surface of the water.

The missing teens were last seen jumping from island to island in the deeper end of the lake. They were there helping with summer programs at the Apache Deaf School and Youth Ranch.
