Commentary: On Monday, May 14 at 2:00 PM, New Mexico faith leaders and activists will kick off 40 days of Non-violent Moral Fusion Direct Action coinciding with the launch of the national Poor People's Campaign in Washington D.C. and simultaneous events at 40 state capitols around the country.Monday’s event in Santa Fe will focus on childhood poverty in New Mexico, as well as early childhood education and seed sovereignty. As the dictum goes, “All of the harvests of all our tomorrows are in the seeds we plant and nurture today.”
The themes for the 40-days of Non-violent Moral Fusion Direct Actions are based upon the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther Kings, Jr.'s seminal speech on April 4, 1967 (one year before his assassination in Memphis) at Riverside Church in NYC: Racism, Materialism, Militarism and Environmental Degradation.
Participants are asked to bring food contributions for Santa Fe Public Schools’ Adelante program, an organization supporting children and youth experiencing homelessness who won’t have access to school meals during the summer break.
