Popular Vote Proposal Subject Of Santa Fe Meeting

By KRWG News

Santa Fe, New Mexico – SANTA FE, N.M. (KRWG) A panel of New Mexico officials will hold a public meeting in Santa Fe on an elections proposal that would ensure the winner of the presidential race is the candidate receiving the most votes nationally.

The Center for the Study of Voting, Elections and Democracy at the University of New Mexico organized the panel to hold three public meetings on a popular vote proposal by a national group.

The measure calls for New Mexico and other states to join a compact to award their electoral votes to the popular vote winner nationwide.

The panel meets Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Santa Fe at the Joseph Montoya Building.

After a final meeting in November, the panel's findings go to the secretary of state, who's making a report to the Legislature.
