Possible Pension Fund Security Breach
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico is notifying about 100,000 active and retired members about a possible security breach.
PERA officials say personal information in the possession of a third-party vendor may have been compromised.
They were notified Thursday by a company hired to perform an annual audit that a breach of personal information may have occurred after a company employee's computer was stolen.
The computer may have contained PERA member information including names, addresses, financial institution routing numbers, account types, account numbers, payment amounts and PERA identification numbers.
PERA officials say the computer hasn't been recovered and it's not known whether the information on the computer has been accessed.
They are encouraging all members to protect themselves by placing a free fraud alert on their bank accounts.
