New Mexico – Some $2 million is going to colonias in southern New Mexico for 10 health, public safety and water projects.
The money comes from the Colonias Infrastructure Trust Fund, created this year as a permanent source of money for projects in colonias, which are rural communities.
The trust fund currently is to receive an estimated $14 million in fiscal year 2012.
Projects include $520,000 to Dona Ana County to for a San Miguel multipurpose facility, $350,000 to the county to extend sewer service to residents of Chaparral, $300,000 to the county for drainage channels to reduce flooding and $210,000 in La Union to extend water and wastewater service to homes in a subdivision.
