Public Conversation: Making Las Cruces More Inclusive

Casa Camino Real Bookstore & Art Gallery invites the public to come down to the bookstore on Thursday, June 2 from 3-5pm for a Community Charla to discuss how our community can become more inclusive and expansive in its cultural outreach to the Latino, African-American, Native-American and very rich and diverse Multicultural community.

The Las Cruces Museums are working on an Exhibit that will share the story of Las Cruces. They want our input and opinions. In a series of community engagement events, they are looking to hear your ideas about what is important to you about history, culture and identity in Las Cruces. They will then be using your ideas to plan for an exhibit on this topic. Learn about how an exhibit is created and designed and participate in selecting the topics that mean the most to us.

In a larger sense, it is important for us as a community to reflect on what matters to us and how we can empower, enlighten and inform our diverse and multicultural community and serve with arts events that have spirit and soul and reach the core of our essence.

Why are so few Latino, African-American, Native American and other Multicultural audiences attending local cultural events? How can we contribute to the dialogue and contribute actively by offering our thoughts and energy? How can we reach our underserved and so deserving community members of all ages, backgrounds and ethnicities who often don’t know about what is happening in the community? What can we do to bring culture to life in Las Cruces and our surrounding rural communities?

Join us at Casa Camino Real as we explore ways to expand our creative cultural awareness and to bring art, literature, and culture to audiences of all ages.

We will offer refreshments including our famous Mexican café de la olla and ask those who join us to bring something to share in a spirit of community.
