Public Meeting Scheduled To Present Unified Development Code

The Doña Ana County Planning and Zoning Commission will host a public meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, to present the final draft of the Unified Development Code (UDC) that will guide future development throughout unincorporated Doña Ana County, upon formal approval by the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners.

The final draft incorporates many changes suggested during a series of public meetings held this past year by the Community Development Department. This also includes feedback from multiple departments and agencies, incorporating best practices as suggested.

The UDC is one document that consolidates all development-related regulations including review procedures, community types and subdivision regulations, zoning requirements, and development and construction standards.

The unified code is user-friendly and provides benefits over existing, separate ordinances.  It reduces redundant, conflicting and inconsistent requirements by providing one source for all standards and approval procedures.  It also provides expanded options to allow for a diversity of development types from rural to urban contexts.  As a result, the UDC is a tool to implement the vision, principles, and goals established in the newly-adopted Comprehensive Plan - Plan 2040, effectively consolidating the development code for Doña Ana County.

The Aug. 11 meeting will be held at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd. The meeting will be streamed live on the Doña Ana County website, www.donaanacounty.org.
