Pulitzer Prize-Winner Author Speaks At NMSU Las Cruces Tonight

The Jornada Long Term Agricultural Research program and the Jornada Basin Long Term Ecological Research Network have created a new speaker program. The inaugural event of the Jornada Speaker Program this week features Pulitzer Prize-winning author Timothy Egan.

Egan will discuss his book “The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America,” along with the start of the U.S. Forest Service, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the New Mexico State University Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

New Mexico author William deBuys will introduce Egan at the event.

“For 20 years, we did a symposium and internal science talks, but decided to change and sponsor a more public event for the local community,” said Kris Havstad, supervisory scientist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Jornada Experimental Range. “We want to host this series on campus to contribute to the science, agriculture, natural resources and environmental conversation in Las Cruces.”

Barnes & Noble at NMSU will be on site for a book-signing event following the presentation.

The Jornada Speaker Series plans to host an event each year in July.
