Racing Commission Says Every Ruidoso Race Tested

New Mexico Racing Commission officials says horses in every race on Ruidoso Downs opening weekend were tested for drugs.

In affirming the commission and the track's commitment to stringent testing, Racing Commission Executive Director Vincent Mares says samples were taken on every race last weekend. They were sent to the University of California at Davis, which has one of the world's premier testing laboratories in horse racing.

Mares says the testing will continue throughout the season.

Track officials say it's an effort to ensure integrity and the safety of the jockeys and horses.

Earlier this month the track released the list of 17 trainers who are banned from the track under new guidelines that prohibit trainers who have been suspended by any racing jurisdiction from competing.
