A Raton man has pleaded guilty to assaulting and seriously injuring a postal carrier.
The U.S. Attorney's Office for New Mexico said Tuesday that 30-year-old Cody Martinez pleaded guilty last week to assaulting a federal employee.
Martinez admitted to striking a mail carrier in the back of the head with a brick on Jan. 20 as he was delivering mail in Colfax County. Martinez was arrested shortly after while trying to flee law enforcement officers.
The victim suffered serious injuries.
Martinez will remain in custody pending a sentencing hearing.
He could face up to 20 years in prison.
